Ergonomic Flow
[This tutorial combines content from the manikin commands, ergonomic sessions, MSD analysis, and body calibration documentation to provide a complete ergonomic analysis workflow.]
Overview
SKYREAL provides a comprehensive ergonomic analysis workflow powered by MetaHuman manikins. You can place human models in your VR scene, calibrate their body dimensions, simulate work tasks, and generate MSD (Musculoskeletal Disorder) risk assessments using RULA scoring.
Prerequisites
-
An experience loaded in Skyreal VR with your workstation or product CAD
-
[The Manikin extension must be available in your experience]
Step-by-Step Workflow
1. Place a Manikin in the Scene
-
In VR, open the Pie Menu and navigate to the Manikin commands.
-
Select Add Manikin and place it in the desired position.
-
Choose the manikin appearance (MetaHuman avatar) and adjust its height.
2. Calibrate Body Dimensions
-
Use the Body Calibration feature to match the manikin's proportions to the real operator's measurements.
-
You can set specific body segment lengths or use overall height to scale automatically.
3. Position the Manikin
-
Move the manikin to the correct workstation position.
-
Use the manikin effectors (hands, feet, head, pelvis) to set the desired posture.
-
Effector modes:
-
Free — Move the effector anywhere in the scene.
-
Simulated — The system calculates the position from other bone locations.
-
Snap to Bone — The effector stays at valid posture positions.
-
Snap to Actor — Link the effector to a specific object in the scene.
-
Locked Local — Fixed in the manikin's local space.
-
Locked World — Fixed in world space.
-
4. Grab Objects
-
To simulate tool handling, set the hand effector to Snap to Actor mode and select the tool or part.
-
Set the hand state to Tracked Finger for realistic finger positioning.
-
Fine-tune finger placement using mesh socket positions.
5. Run an Ergonomic Session
You can run ergonomic sessions in two modes:
Desktop + VR Session
-
Start the session from the desktop interface.
-
The VR user performs the tasks while the desktop operator monitors and records posture data.
VR-Only Session
-
Start and control the entire session from within VR.
-
The manikin tracks your VR movements in real time.
6. Record Manikin Movements
-
Use the Record feature to capture manikin movements over time.
-
Playback recordings for review and comparison.
7. Analyze MSD Risk
-
Enable the MSD Analysis overlay to see color-coded risk indicators on the manikin's body.
-
The analysis computes RULA scores:
-
Green — Low risk
-
Yellow — Medium risk
-
Orange — High risk
-
Red — Very high risk (immediate action needed)
-
-
The system evaluates angles for every bone of interest and computes scores for the back, left body, right body, and overall.
8. Export Reports
-
Save MSD reports as JSON files for documentation and further analysis.
-
Take screenshots of the manikin with the MSD overlay for visual reports.
Tips
-
[Use the Vision Field toggle to visualize what the manikin can see from its current head position — useful for verifying operator line-of-sight.]
-
[Start with a simulated posture, then refine individual effectors for accuracy.]
-
[Compare multiple manikin sizes (5th percentile, 50th, 95th) to validate accessibility for a range of operators.]
